What to Do If You Forgot Windows System Password

I forgot my system password for my dell laptop. I bought it 2nd hand so I don’t have a warranty. I don’t think I can afford to pay a pro to fix this problem for me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What to do if you forgot Windows password? Ask an administrator to reset the log on password for you. If you are administrator yourself, and you can’t remember the administrator password, the problem get a little tricky. Here are a few methods for you to reset Windows password if you forgot Windows system password and can’t log on your computer.

Method 1: Reset Windows Password Using Other Account

If you cannot log on to Windows system by using a particular user account, but you can log on to another account that has administrative credentials, follow these steps on how to do the trick:

  1. Log on to Windows by using an administrator account that has a password that you remember. You may need to start Windows system in safe mode.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type “control userpasswords2”, and then click OK.
  4. Click the user account that you forgot the password for, and then click Reset Password.
  5. Type a new password in both the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and then click OK.

Method 2: Reset Windows Password with Password Recovery Bundle

If you are the only user on your PC, the method above will not work for your situation. Don’t worry! There is always a trick for you to reset Windows password. With Password Recovery Bundle you can reset Windows 8/7/Vista/XP/2008/2003/2000 password easily and then log in to your system instantly.

  1. Download and install Password Recovery Bundle on another computer you can log in.
  2. Launch Password Recovery Bundle and click Windows Password button.
  3. The program will prompt a dialog that requires you to create a Windows password reset disk. Insert a blank CD or DVD and then click Start Burn to start.
  4. Once your Windows password reset disk is created, you can use it to boot your locked computer.
  5. After booting into the Reset Windows Password screen, choose the user account you want to reset the password for, then click Reset Password button to remove the password.

Reboot your computer and eject the Windows password reset disk, you’ll able to log in your system without typing a password at the next logon. Enjoy it!
